10 Amazing Life Lessons From Albert Einstein

Perseverance is priceless. This quote is attributed to Albert Einstein, who is one of the greatest thinker this world as ever known. Einstein published more than 300 scientific papers and more over 150 non-scientific works. These days, we associate his name "Einstein" with genius and mankind has benefited from the lessons of Albert Einstein.

Many people believe that geniuses are born, not made. Perhaps it is the way their brain is hardwired, or perhaps something else affects the construct of their thought process. Whatever it is that creates geniuses, there are lessons to be learned in the way they approach problems.

Albert Einstein Lessons

Life Lessons From Albert Einstein

In truth, I do not know if these are accurate attributed to Albert Einstein or if these truly embodied the way he lived. Most likely, these are observations from someone who wrote a book about him. Still, it is food for thought.
  1. Follow your curiosity
  2. Perseverance is priceless
  3. Focus on the present
  4. The imagination is powerful
  5. Make mistakes
  6. live in the moment
  7. Create value
  8. Don't expect different results
  9. Knowledge comes from experience
  10. Learn the rules and then play better

Learn The Rules Of The Game

Learn the rules and then play better, this is one I have always tried to do. Before you can change the rules, you must first learn and understand the rules. This is the reason why we have to go to school and start from the bottom of the ladder.

Of course, there are those who did not finish school but these are the guys who created the rules. The difference is once they have created their business, they then have to play in accordance to the rules they rest of us live by. At the end of the day, they change the rules to create value, not because they are rebels.

You cannot win the game if you do not know the rules of games. You cannot rewrite the rules of the game unless you are the winner. You need either genius or credibility.

Know Your Limitations

Just as important it is to want to achieve your goal in life, it is also important to know your limitations. To know your limitations does not mean to set your limitations. Knowing your limitations allows you to play to your strengths. As for your weaknesses, that is what a team is for. Your team or your friends cover your back. Value them.

[Excerpt from Wikipedia]
After the death of Israel's first president in November 1952, then Prime Minister David Ben-Gurion offered Albert Einstein the Presidency of Israel, a largely ceremonial position. The offer was presented by Israel's ambassador in Washington, Abba Eban, who explained that the offer "embodies the deepest respect which the Jewish people can repose in any of its sons". However, Einstein declined, and wrote in his response that he was "deeply moved", and "at once saddened and ashamed" that he could not accept it:

All my life I have dealt with objective matters, hence I lack both the natural aptitude and the experience to deal properly with people and to exercise official function. I am the more distressed over these circumstances because my relationship with the Jewish people became my strongest human tie once I achieved complete clarity about our precarious position among the nations of the world.

Find Out How Just ONE Extra Degree Of Effort Can Change Your Results

I have been fortunate to have worked for companies and individuals that believed in the commitment to excellence. When I was still working at 2.00am, I just had to look to my right to see my general manager right there beside me. It made all the difference in the world to know that you are not the only one. We traveled across our state, working insane hours, simply because we were committed to the success of our company. It made all the difference in the world when the staff saw management right there in the trenches with them.

The difference between excellence and mediocre is just a small shift in your altitude. It is always the little things that make a big difference.

Motivate Those Around You

If you are in a position of leadership, a big part of your job is motivating the people around you. Motivation is not a slogan, nor is it the stick and the carrot. Have more respect to those who work for you. It is a belief that what you do matters, and the belief that you do it better than anyone else. We take professional pride in doing an outstanding job, and that should reflect on everything we do.

7 Simple Motivational Tips

7 motivational tips to get you in the game.

Motivational Tip No.1 : Stay Positive At All Times
Keep a positive outlook at all times, make a conscious effort to be upbeat about your work, your life and anything else that matters. Don't let yourself focus on the doubts or the negative emotions of having a bad day. With the right mindset you can overcome anything. Being in a positive state of mind helps you get more done, and with better results. Being positive can also motivate others around you.

Motivational Tip No.2 : Use Prep Talk To Get You Going
Never ever think that you cannot do something, or say that it is too tough. Keep reminding yourself that you can accomplish whatever it is you are doing. Face yourself in the mirror and tell yourself you are capable of more than you ever dream off. Focus on the positive, and keep reminding yourself whenever the going gets tough. You can do it, one step at a time.

Motivational Tip No.3 : Get Involved
Get stuck in. That is how you progress in this game. The hardest part is always the first step, once you build momentum you can get through anything. It might be tough in the beginning, you might find it hard to keep your mind on what it is you are doing. But once you get past the first hurdle, rest assured the second hurdle is a doodle. By getting involved, you also play off each other's energy and focus on the job at hand. Start contributing and other people will help you stay the course.

Motivational Tip No.4 : Grow Your Confidence
Confidence comes from knowing you can do the job, it is part knowledge, learning, experience and personality. Confidence comes from a positive outlook in life, it comes from being involved in the organization. Knowing the people in the organization can help you out, they can be your back-up or safety net when something big comes up. You can focus on your job better when you know you have a group of people who will help you out when a curve ball comes out of nowhere. The more you do, the more experience you will have, and it is experience that builds up your confidence.

Motivational Tip No.5 : Always Finish What You Start
You will never get anything done unless you finish what you start. You need to be focused on the job at hand, or the issue on the table. Don't let yourself be distracted, or wander off to do something else that isn't essential. Develop this trait of always getting the job finished. It is about effectiveness at what you do and delivering consistent results. You don't have to be brilliant or a superstar, you just need to finish what you start. You will be surprised how this simple trait is valued in all organizations. Do this and you will out-perform all the "superstars".

Motivational Tip No.6 : Get Organized
Make sure you set goals and targets for yourself, and your goals should have a dateline. This will keep you focused. Plan your days and your work-flow, have a weekly and daily organizer at hand. Understand that you cannot finish everything at once. You will need a team of people who will work with you. The more effective you are at organizing your resources and assets, the more efficient you will be. Be realistic about what you can achieve, and accept the fact that nothing worthwhile comes without hardwork.

Motivational Tip No.7 : Reward Yourself
Give yourself a reward for your success. By rewarding yourself, you are also motivating yourself to do even better. Give yourself some time off, go somewhere to unwind. Have a good time. Then get back into the game and do it all over again.

The Leadership Role

For those of you in the leadership position, often you are not appreciated enough for what you do. A leader, or a manager often provides motivation and drive for the organization. He is self-motivated, and when things go wrong, he finds the solution for the problem. The leader is in the spotlight, and what he says or does can make a difference in the business. He must be full of energy all the time, no matter what life throws at him. That is what being in the leadership position is about.

Contrary to misconceptions, being in the hot seat isn't being able to take it easy. Although it can sometimes look that way. I remember when my assistant got promoted to take over my position in a previous company. In the early days, she would often call me up and we would go through what needs to be done at the business level. Something she said stuck with me all these years. She asked," I did not imagine that there would be so much to do. There are so many things to take care of. Why did it seem so easy when you were doing it?"

The answer is we make it look easy, that is why we get paid the big bucks. We do the same job, get the same results but our methods are different. We keep our cool even when things look to be falling apart. Besides, how would it look if the management was running around all over the place with their hair on fire. That is unlikely to build trust and confidence.

Being the leader, you have to communicate and get your message across. Whether it is within the company or to the public. You are the voice of the business, and you speak on behalf of the company. It could be a meeting with your peers, or a presentation to the group management, you must be able to speak. Speaking in public to 300 people takes some getting used to.
