The World's 50 Most Innovative Companies

I read this post published by www.fastcompany.com in their annual guide to the businesses whose innovations have an impact on industries and cultures. Sometimes with all the innovation and information on the internet, I wonder how anyone has the time to read it all. Even for a compulsive reader like me.

Since 50 is too big to list, I list the top 10. If you want to read the full post, the link is below this list.
  1. Apple - No surprises here.
  2. Facebook - Again, not surprised it made the list.
  3. Google - Who owns the internet?
  4. Amazon - Largest online retailer in the world. Where else would they be?
  5. Square - Ok, I've not heard of this one.
  6. Twitter - Which has never worked out for me.
  7. Occupy Movement - I suspect most of us wish to be the 1%.
  8. Tencent - A huge technology and telco company in China which AOL can learn from.
  9. Life Technologies - A genetic sequencing service.
  10. SolarCity - What the world should really get behind.
Interesting, Paypal made the list at no. 43. If you looked at their 2011 list, Apple was ranked no.1.
The full list of 50 companies is here, The World's 50 Most Innovative Companies.

How Can You Make Sure You Are Relevant In The Dynamic And Ever-Changing 21st Century Global Marketplace?

Making money begins with having the right philosophy, but there are other factors involved, among which are finding your market and selling them something that you believe in. One underlying principal is that we get paid for bringing value to the marketplace.

My Philosophy for Successful Living

Jim Rohn Books

Bring Value To The Marketplace

1) The marketplace is made of people.
Focus on solving their problems and you are ahead of the game. This applies whether you are selling a product or a service, whether you are in business for yourself or you are working for a company.

2) You get paid by what you become.
In other words, be known as the person who can reduce their pain and they will come to you with their business. Why do people buy products and services in the first place? They either want to spend less effort at what they do, save time or to save money.

If you can help them improve their efficiency, be more effective, reduce their operating cost and increase their return on investment, you will be well positioned to capture their business.

Time Is More Precious Than Money

You can always make more money but you can never get more time. Whenever people buy your products or services, they need to feel that they absolutely got amazing value for their money. On top of that, your clients should also feel that their time with you was well spent.

Reading Jim Rohn Books

I have just finished reading My Philosophy for Successful Living By Jim Rohn, and these are just some of the ideas he puts forth in this book. This is just scratching the surface of this straight to the point, no fluff and filler Jim Rohn book. It is a short book, available on Kindle and his philosophy is well presented. Reading this book should open your mind to ideas on how you can improve the many aspects of your life. I encourage you to read more of Jim Rohn Books.

We take the time to learn because we are investing in ourselves. The more we read, the more we expand our way of thinking. To think outside the box, you need to first expand the boundaries of your ideas. Only then, you can make those ideas work for you.

The Ten Unwealthy Habits book

The Ten Unwealthy Habits by Alicia Castillo Holley.

The Ten Unwealthy Habits is a paperbook that is also written by Alicia Castillo Holley. If you are stuck regardless of your efforts and feel you are chasing your wealth instead of enjoying it. This is a book for you. Based on her work with hundreds of entrepreneurs seeking funding, Castillo realized recurrent habits that prevented success. She discusses the key habits and offers a remedy to each invisible habit. Through the lenses of ten people, you will be surprised to find out what is holding them back.

Each habit is paired with a 'vaccine' that lifts the break and sets people free. The last chapter highlights a habit- breaking method.

What is best about this book is that she also discloses how to change each habit. For a habit to be CURED, it needs a VACCINE just like when you or your loved one gets sick. So she developed a system of vaccines to CURE THE UNWEALTHY HABITS. YOU will discover the secret insider techniques, and her special way of overcoming these unwealthy habits that we all have.

Why Failure Is Essential To Your Success

“Recognition that failing is a natural by-product of the process of seeking success.”

There is a belief being that the faster you fail, the faster you will achieve success. Numerous books have been written on this, Go For No by Richard Fenton and Andrea Waltz, and The Rich Dad series by Robert Kiyosaki. Failures are lesson learnt the hard or practical way. If someone were to say to you that they have never failed, perhaps it is because they have never reached across their comfort zone.

Failure means you are growing and acquiring the skills to success. Failure helps us identify our weakness, and allows us to play to our strengths. Whenever we met challenges and insurmountable obstacles, we gain persistence. Persistency is what keeps us going on the road to success.

Dare To Failure

Daring to failure does not mean taking chances and risks that exposes you to failure. Sure, in everything that we do in business, there are risk factors. But we plan to mitigate and lessen the cost of failure. Daring to failure means you plan for failure as part of your strategy. It is part of your strategy to have contingency plans when things are not working out. Recognizing the dangers early lets you take action immediately to rectify whatever is not working. Call Plan B or Contingency Planning.

It is a truth in business operations that when you fail to plan, you are doomed to failure.

Dare To Succeed

Personally, I call it Daring To Succeed. It is inescapable that you have to be more than you are right now to achieve any great measure of success. As much as we should play to our strengths, in order to grow in our area of expertise, it also means going beyond our comfort zone. Doing things we might be uncomfortable with or doing more than you think you are capable of. Very often, you do not know what you are capable of unless you have done it.

I have been in management for most of my career, and I managed multi-million dollars business units. Was it easy the first time? Of course not, the stress and uncertainty is hard to describe to someone who has not been there. Ever faced the Board of Directors to report on your business? It has never been easy. Because even if you achieved your targets, any worthwhile company will drill down on to the weakness of the operations in order to identify and rectify the issues.

Daring to Succeed means being willingly to face failures while at the same time building upon your strengths.

4 Steps to Boosting Your Productivity to New Heights

By Rich Schefren

What did you do today?

Maybe you checked your email... Met with a client... Spoke with your marketing director about an upcoming campaign... Chatted with an employee about her holiday plans... Set up a joint venture.

My guess is that you got a lot done over the course of the work day. In my experience, most entrepreneurial-minded people are excellent at focusing on the important aspects of their work.

But I'm also guessing that you could be even more productive. After all, most people can find at least some room for improvement in their daily lives.

Today, I've got a quick strategy that will help you drive your productivity to new heights.

In my work coaching many of today's top Internet marketers, these questions surface frequently:
1. How can I stop wasting time?
2. How can I get other people to stop wasting my time?
3. How can I get more done in less time?
4. At the end of the day, how can I feel good about what I accomplished?

Do any of these questions sound familiar? If so, you know that increasing productivity means more than just working faster. In fact, it's about discipline and purpose. Two traits entrepreneurs often struggle with.

Let's talk about discipline first.

If you find yourself struggling to accomplish what's on your to-do list, or sticking to your schedule, these tactics often do the trick:

1. Take Advantage of a Powerful Part of Your Brain.
Identify tomorrow's most important outcomes before you go to bed. You don't necessarily need to know exactly how you will spend the day when you hit the sack. But, being sure of the results you want gives your subconscious mind a chance to figure out the best ways to get it all done while you're sleeping. The next morning, when you plan your schedule for the day, you'll be surprised by what you come up with.

2. Include Anchor Activities in Your Schedule.
When planning your schedule for the day, make sure you include anchor activities to keep yourself on track. An anchor activity is a task that will force you to be disciplined.

For example, left to my own devices when I am talking to a friend/peer, the conversation might go on for hours. But if I have an important call to make 30 minutes later, I know I won't spend longer than 30 minutes on the first call. So the second call is an anchor activity.

Anchor activities ensure that though you might lack discipline right now, it won't interfere with what you must get done.

3. Do the Uncomfortable First.
Attack your most important, most intense, and highest leverage activities first. Doing so generates momentum and confidence you can ride the rest of the day.

4. Look at Yourself and Learn.
At the end of the day, evaluate your performance. If you did a good job, what, specifically, helped you get it done? If you got off track, what happened? And how can you prevent that from happening in the future? This step is frequently neglected... and that's a shame. Because it's the fastest path to ever-increasing productivity.

Now, let's talk about being purposeful...

Far too many entrepreneurs don't keep their eyes on the prize. They go into meetings, make phone calls, talk to staff and contractors... without being clear about the specific outcome they want from each of these activities.

The solution? It's simple. Get into the habit of asking yourself "What's my outcome?" every time you transition into a new activity. To make asking this question a habit, put visual reminders where you can't miss seeing them... until it becomes your default way of operating.

Write "What's my outcome?" in your daily schedule, on a Post-It on your desk, on an index card that you carry in your briefcase, and on a label on the bottom of your computer monitor. Having so many reminders makes it easy to be consistent when you're trying to develop a new way of thinking. And anything you do consistently develops into a habit quickly.

So there you have it. You now have a four-part strategy to become more disciplined, more purposeful, and, ultimately, much more productive.

Why People Fail To Achieve Their Goals

Tony Robbins needs no introduction. Have you heard of Tony Robbins? Sure. Have you seen or studied his videos? No. But if you take some time to watch this video, there are some lessons to pick up. You can learn a lot just by watching how people get things done, or in this case get the message across.

Why do people fail to achieve their goals?
I have been in managerial positions for most of my professional career, and whether in business or in life, this question and the answer which you give will define the success you can achieve. When asked, many people will say they did not have the resources they need, or the timing, or the economic environment was not right. While these factors might play a apart, these are not the defining factors, in Tony Robbins own words. It is resourcefulness. If we have the passion, the belief in what you are doing, you will find a way to get through to people. In business, we never have sufficient resources, or the perfect economic situation and even the best laid plans can go South. But what it comes down to is how we can achieve results despite the challenges in our way.

I am sure many of you have people in your organization that gets things done, the movers and shakers. No matter what the job is, they just get on with it. They live it, think it, dream it and they just do it. What it boils down to is Resources versus Resourcefulness. Which one do you think is going to carry the day?

Determination, creativity, passion and resolve are some examples of Resourcefulness. Ultimately, it is about you. If you are passionate enough, you find a way. If you are passionate about your goals, people respond to that. You touch them on a emotional level and people cannot help but respond to that.

The Takeaway From This
  1. What Am I Going To Focus On?
  2. What Does It Mean?
  3. What Are You Going To Do?
