A few years back, I had the opportunity to work with the most optimistic person I have ever met. He was so optimistic, and so upbeat most of the time, that he drove me nuts. He was driven, focused, could work for hours on end, and he could talk non-stop for hours. On any subject.
He was the CEO of a small outfit that wrote and sold retail POS database systems and integrations. At that time, I was the project manager for a retail chain, with outlets all over the state. He was our consultant, our vendor and almost immediately a friend. Sure, there were times when I wanted to strangle him, but I got to admit, I learned a lot from him. Nothing seems to get him down, whether it was going head to head with an international system vendor, or my deposition when things were not going well.
For the 18 months we worked together, I got a huge lesson in the Law Of Attraction. Enthusiasm is infectious, as is optimism. A positive altitude attracts positive results. We climbed mountains to get the job done, spending days on the road. Inspection, installation, integration and most importantly, training. The sessions we had were entertaining, and we steamrolled over all negative thinking. We overcame their natural apprehension and proved that the system worked. In the times that it didn’t work, we were there to solve the problems.
A lot of optimism and enthusiasm rubbed off on me. It was a great time for me. Full of challenges, having a team that was focused and built to overcome all obstacles. We traveled all over the state, living out of a suitcase. We were there for each other, and to this day, that was the most amazing team I have ever led.
It was also at this time that I met the girl who would later be my wife. Like I said, when you have a positive outlook on life, good things come your way. Personally, it was the most amazing experience in my life. Professionally, what we did stands as a record of sorts. The best part was, I got everybody on the team double bonuses.
Do I think the Law Of Attraction works? You bet. I experienced it time and again. You can do great things when you visualize and work towards them. It doesn’t come easy, nothing worthwhile ever does. But with a positive altitude, work doesn’t feel like work. The hardest part is to keep your enthusiasm when the going gets tough. That’s why it is so important to choose the people you hang out with. People with the same kind of determination, goals and altitude. They are the people that keeps going, and even if things don’t work out, they take the lesson from that.
If things aren’t going your way, you have to change your environment. It is time to stop thinking and start doing. It is only through action on your part that you can achieve your goals. Visualize, accept the outcome and work towards it. Sometimes, you achieve your goals when you lest expect it.
It is time to get your head in the game, and take action. Remember, you don’t win unless you are in the game.
